What is therapy?

Therapy is when you meet with an accredited psychotherapist to talk about what is going on for you to better understand your thoughts, feeling and patterns of doing things and have a space to explore other ways to respond. Many people come to therapy when they are feeling stuck, or overwhelmed and looking for support.

When do I know when I should attend therapy?

We all struggle at times during life due to changes, losses and the challenge of adapting to new situations. We are resilient and often the support of family and friends can be sufficient to help us overcome these challenges. However, if you find yourself stuck and your mind is overthinking or your mood and energy are low it may be time to seek out therapy.Sometimes feelings of shame or not feeling deserving can be barriers to attending. It is important to think about how you want to live your life and therapy can help you carve a way forward. Two quotes that come to mind are “ The journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step” and “ If you keep doing what you are doing you will keep getting what you are getting”.

What happens during the initial appointment?

During the initial appointment you will be asked questions about your life, your relationships and your goals and dreams. We will look at what you are struggling with and also what your strengths are. We will look at how you live your life day to day. You will be given the opportunity to ask any questions you have. At the end of the initial appointment you will be given an idea of what might be helpful to move forward in your life.
